WorldViz installed a state-of-the-art 3-wall Projection VR System for the Geographic Information and Visualization (GIVA) group at GIScience Center in the Department of Geography, University of Zurich.Professor Sara Irina Fabrikant has been using the Vizard Virtual Reality Software Toolkit to conduct research for more than 10 years, investigating together with Dr. Arzu Coltekin, how photorealism might affect a person’s confidence in spatial data quality.

Another line of research, in collaboration with Professor Daniel Montello at the Geography Department of the University of California Santa Barbara, evaluates how interactive stereoscopic 3D views might affect sensemaking of document similarity in spatialized network displays.

The new Projection VR system, coupled with eye tracking and psychophysiological sensing devices, will be used by members of the GIVA group to continue empirical research on how graphic displays might support effective and efficient visuo-spatial inference and decision making about geographical phenomena and space-time processes.
